THERE’S NO SUBSTITUTE FOR SEVEN DECADES OF EXPERIENCE.
Founded in 1955 by architect Thomas Sebold, the firm’s focus gradually shifted from design to construction. As a trusted partner to world renowned architects such as Minoru Yamasaki, and Hugh Newell Jacobson, Thomas quickly established the firm’s position in the custom home market. Commitment to quality and craftsmanship has guided TSA to preeminent position in the Michigan building industry. TSA is proud of the status we have achieved through our past accomplishments. However, we know we must continue to work hard to ensure future success.
Although we are often regarded as strictly a high-end builder, we pride ourselves on our quality and affordability. No matter the size or scope of your building project, we view all customers with equal importance. We know the significance of managing your budget, timely communication, and punctual completion of your project. Our customers’ happiness is another key to the continued success of TSA. Today, Glenn Kunnath (owner), along with a dedicated group of construction professionals, have taken the company to a new level. Both Glenn and the talented TSA Project Managers are involved in each phase of the building process from design to construction through completion. Personal hands-on involvement ensures a fiscally, as well as structurally sound build.
TSA shows strength in its diversity. While we are best known for our custom residential work, remodeling, historic restoration, commercial construction, and TSA Home Care are equally crucial elements to our ongoing business. Diversity allows TSA to bring together the best trades people to practice time honored methods of craftsmanship and pursue the latest advances in building technology.
Our highly skilled team of carpenters and tradesmen routinely custom fabricate cabinets and furniture to complement residential and commercial projects. Your creative ideas and dreams can be turned into reality with our skilled craftsmanship, knowledge, and experience.
TSA has been in business as a family-run company since 1955. Thomas Sebold—founder of the company and known as “TS” to friends and family—became involved in the building industry initially as an architect. He began his career in Detroit as a Junior Draftsman at the prestigious Smith, Hinchman & Grylls, known today as SmithGroup. Tom quickly acquired the title of “Job Captain” and was in charge of overseeing drawings and specs for his team. He also had the opportunity to work for Victor Gruen & Associates on the design and construction of the Northland Shopping Mall—the first shopping center of its kind— and for Ralph Calder on the construction of Michigan Technological University.
Tom eventually shifted his efforts into construction to become more involved with the building process. After a number of partnerships he formed Thomas Sebold & Associates in 1979 with his sons, John and Dan, to focus on the Metro Detroit residential market.
“The purpose of architecture is to create an atmosphere in which man can live, work and enjoy”
—Minoru Yamasaki, architect of the original World Trade Center.
World-renowned architect Minoru Yamasaki’s simple yet powerful philosophy is reflected throughout his own Bloomfield Hills home, designed by the architect himself and built by Thomas Sebold & Associates in the early 1970s.

”I wanted to take maximum advantage of the views and capture the Michigan light”
—Hugh Newell Jacobson, quoted in anArchitectural Digest articlefeaturing the home in 1990.
Hugh Newell Jacobson designed this Bloomfield Hills residence in Kirk in The Hills neighborhood. Inspired by Neoclassical design with careful attention paid to proportion, this home was built on a narrow site between two lakes which presented an initial challenge. The solution was to create the illusion of a larger site through the placement and design of the entrance drive. More than 125 matching Bradford pear trees lead visitors through a classic allee to the home’s dramatic entryway.

TSA begins work in Bay Harbor
Thomas Sebold & Associates expanded their reach when the company was asked to work on a new development in Northern Michigan—Bay Harbor. A unique residential community situated on Little Traverse Bay, the development was built upon an old quarry, offering residents access to a world-class golf course, yacht club and equestrian facilities. TSA is proud to have built several custom homes and condominiums within the community as well as the Bay Harbor Yacht Club.
The new owners of the Yamasaki’s residence returned to TSA for a modern renovation of the 1972 home. Owner and interior designer Lynda Charfoos used her knowledge and experience of 20th century classic design to update the home while preserving Yamasaki’s original intent for the space.
